Here is my Step-by-Step process for painting my Tyranids, which I have dubbed Hive Fleet Scorpius. Unless otherwise noted all paint colors are Citadel brand.
- Spray with Army Painter Necrotic Flesh spray primer. This matches the Citadel paint color Rotting Flesh.
- Apply Thraka Green wash to all skin areas.
- Paint the carapace areas with the following paint colors.
- Base coat with Orkhide Shade foundation paint.
- Apply Dark Angels Green to entire carapace.
- Highlight carapace with 50/50 Dark Angels Green and Snot Green.
- Highlight carapace with Snot Green.
- If there are any especially long spikes or crests on the carapace, highlight with 50/50 Snot Green and Scorpion Green.
- Paint all claws, talons and teeth with Bleached Bone.
- Paint remaining details with Scorpion Green or Golden Yellow.
